Honee Glazed Chocolate Cake Donuts

June 11, 2025 By Gretchen

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

My all time favorite donut is and has always been the chocolate cake donut

Honee Glazed Chocolate Cake Donuts to be exact!

Honee Glazed Chocolate Cake Donut

Roll them in coconut or don’t but either way these are so freaking good!

Traditional cake donuts are in fact fried, but these honee glazed chocolate cake donuts are baked instead
So that right there gives me the green light to eat two!

Honee Glazed Chocolate Cake Donut

If you make your own Vegan Honee recipe for the honee glaze that’s instant bonus points!

Or just keep it simple with a quick agave substitute instead

Honee Glazed Chocolate Cake Donut

There is no video for this one but it’s so simple to mix all you need is a large bowl a whisk and about 30 minutes!

Notes for Success

Flax meal as the egg replacer is my favorite for a recipe like this
But if you prefer to use a different one instead feel free!

Make them gluten free using your favorite 1:1 Blend like Bob’s Red Mill * not sponsored

Using a sugar free substitute is a great option!
Click here for more about sugar free baking

You will need a Donut Pan to make these and they come in large size like the ones I made. or miniature donuts too!

Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 12 minutes mins
Total Time 22 minutes mins
Servings 15

Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 2¼ cup All Purpose Flour (280g)
  • ⅔ cup Granulated Sugar (140g)
  • ¼ cup Cocoa Powder (25g)
  • 2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Plant Milk (237ml)
  • 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar (5ml)
  • 2 Tbs Flax Meal (16g)
  • 6 Tbs Hot Water (90ml)
  • 3 Tbs Vegetable Oil (45ml)
  • 2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (10ml)

For the Honee Glaze

  • 2 cup Confectioners Sugar (240g)
  • ⅓ cup Plant Milk (70ml)
  • 2 Tbs Vegan Honee *see notes & recipe above

Instructions

  • Lightly grease your donut pans & preheat the oven to 350F
  • Add the vinegar to the plant milk & let stand to thicken while you measure the other ingredients *soy milk is the only milk that will thicken but feel free to use any plant milk you prefer
  • Combine the hot water with the flax meal & also let that stand to thicken
  • In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda & cocoa powder and whisk or sift to combine evenly
  • Now add all the liquid ingredients (the flax paste, plant milk & vinegar mixture) along with the vegetable oil & vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and whisk smooth
  • Portion the batter amongst the prepared donut pans, you will fill almost to the top but not quite & there will be batter left in the bowl for 3 more donuts.
  • Bake the first 12 for 12-15 minutes then let them cool slightly, turn them out onto a cooling rack & then wash, dry & re-grease 3 of the cavities in 1 donut pan for the remaining 3 donuts
  • Meanwhile combine the confectioners sugar, honee & plant milk in a large mixing bowl & whisk the glaze smooth
  • Dip the slightly cooled donuts in the glaze flipping them to coat both sides then place on a cooling rack & allow the excess to drip off
  • Roll them in coconut if you wish!

If you do not want to make your own Vegan Honee simply use agave or golden syrup instead

Freeze for longer storage up to 2 months
