Vegan Mocha Buttercream is my all time favorite flavor!
a simple combination of coffee and chocolate together

My recent recipe for
Hungarian Walnut Cake
boasts this icing from the filling to the icing!
but mocha buttercream pairs up with just about every cake flavor you can imagine!

Adjust the intensity to your liking
I happen to love strong coffee so for me this ratio listed below is perfect!
But if you are someone who likes their coffee a tad bit weaker just use half the amount of the coffee granules
No name brand instant coffee granules is my choice but if you are using a real deal espresso powder definitely use half the amount as listed


Mocha Buttercream
Ingredients
- 1 Recipe Buttercream of your choice
- 3 Tbs instant coffee granules
- 2 Tbs cocoa powder
- 3 Tbs hot water
Instructions
- Combine the instant coffee & cocoa powder together then add the hot water. Whisk smooth
- Prepare the buttercream recipe of your choice
- Add the COOLED coffee paste at the last stage of mixing your buttercream recipe.
Notes
Storage Mocha Buttercream will be stored the same as your recipe for buttercream.

Hi Gretchen, do you have any advice if we want a richer chocolate flavor? I am finding that adding melted chocolate makes it too soft for what I am going for, but cacao powder alone isnt giving enough flavor. Do you think it might be because im using cacao instead of cocoa? Thanks as always <3

I have instant espresso coffee powder. Do you think I should use less of that? Or, should I try to source something that is just instant coffee?

Espresso powder will work great! Get it to a paste but add a little at a time and taste as you go
