The Bakery Mocha Cake
yellow cake, mocha buttercream and those signature walnuts!

Walnut garnish is not unique to my bakery
somehow these suspicious walnuts made their way as universal garnish to this iconic cake!
so if you see a cake with the light beige icing
and a few walnuts on top IT’S A MOCHA CAKE!

I believe this Americanized version is a descendant of
the Hungarian Walnut Cake
which is where I suspect the walnuts cake from in the first place!

Walnuts or not I love me some coffee
so this Bakery Mocha Cake is right up my alley!

This is a Building On Recipes project where you only need two simple recipes to get to this perfect cake!
Gluten Free Flour works great with my classic Bakery Yellow Cake Recipe listed below!
Mocha Buttercream is a simple recipe made from cocoa powder and instant coffee granules!
Use your favorite recipe of buttercream and add this mocha paste at the last stage of mixing!
Of course you can leave the walnuts off since they really don’t lend much to this cake anyway!
I always laugh since it’s just so ridiculous that they are there in the first place!

Baking the batter into 3-7″ cake pans but you can use 2-8″ pans instead

- 10 Whole Walnuts
Instructions
- Prepare the recipes according to the instructions on those pages then build the cake as shown in the picture. Garnish each slice with a whole lightly toasted walnut half
